Film NEWS: -- The Black Hollywood Education and Resource Center (BHERC) returns with their fan-favorite event, "A Great Day in Black Hollywood," which honors ground-breaking talent, community leaders, and organizations making a difference both in Hollywood and the community. This opening celebration kicks-off their 30th Annual S.E. Manly African-American Short Film Festival (SEMAASFF).

Music and Performers NEWS: -- The holiday spirit will be brought to life once again with the "Holiday Pops Spectacular" taking place on Friday, December 20, 2024, at 8 p.m., at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center. This will be the Golden State Pops Orchestra's long-awaited return to the venue, last performing in Redondo Beach back in 2015.

Film NEWS: -- The Black Hollywood Education and Resource Center (BHERC) President Sandra J. Evers-Manly is pleased to announce the 30th Annual S. E. Manly African American Short Film Festival (SEMAASFF), will take place November 15, 2024; and is kicking off with its historic opening event, "Great Night in Black Hollywood," the weekend of November 15, to open the occasion's weekend.

Music and Performers NEWS: -- Czech composer, Tatiana Mikova, presents her String Quartet, "In Modo Lidico," at Carnegie Hall's Progressive Musicians Laureate Gala. The piece will be performed by the Lehner String Quartet on July 1, 2024 in the intimate Weill Recital Hall, home to hundreds of recitals, chamber music concerts, panel discussions, and master classes.

Music and Performers NEWS: -- On April 6, 2024, at 7 p.m. in El Segundo, CA, the South Bay Wind Ensemble will perform "Beethoven Ode to Joy at 200." The concert will take place at the El Segundo Performing Arts Center. Join the South Bay Wind Ensemble, the SoCAL Chorale, Maestro Steven Allen Fox, Chorale Director Marya Basaraba, and over 130 musicians on April 6 as we celebrate 200 years of the greatest symphony of all time!

Music and Performers NEWS: -- On Sunday, February 18, 3 p.m., The Lowell Chamber Orchestra will present the first Massachusetts performance of Julia Perry's "Symphony for Violas and Basses," from a new edition by LCO's music director Orlando Cela. The concert will also include a world premiere by Martin Max Schreiner.

Music and Performers NEWS: -- The venerable indie rock band Guided By Voices (GBV) recently celebrated 40 years of music with several thousand fans in its hometown of Dayton, Ohio, performing two sold-out shows at the Dayton Masonic Center over Labor Day weekend. In the spirit of bringing that celebration to Boston, four local fans (calling themselves the Textbook Committee) have organized Forever Since Heedfest, which brings three GBV tribute bands and diehard fans from near and far to Warehouse XI in Somerville, MA this February.

Publishing NEWS: -- On the last day of Black History Month, nationally recognized Black Producer and Creator Joe Young, Jr., in partnership with JPMorgan Chase, will launch a print and digital comic book teaching financial literacy to students featuring "KEMET, BIG TIME SAVER." Students will officially meet KEMET, a ten-year-old time-traveling comic character who goes back to meet African-American historical firsts, legends, and inventors.

Music and Performers NEWS: -- The Arlington Philharmonic Orchestra will perform the United States premiere a composition written in 1781 by Marianna Martines, a student of Franz Joseph Haydn. Martines work is the overture to her oratorio "Isacco." This edition by the Philharmonic Orchestra's Music Director Orlando Cela aims to preserve as much as possible the intentions of the composer, and show the mastery of Martines.

Music and Performers NEWS: -- Nearly forty percent of Americans can trace at least one ancestor to Ellis Island, and the Lowell Chamber Orchestra will present a work based on three actual stories of the famous islands that encompass the immigrant experience. "Island of Peoples" is free and open to the public, and will take place on: Saturday, December 17, 2022.
