WASHINGTON, D.C. /Publishers Newswire/ — The Department of State has submitted for publication in the Federal Register a notification to members of the public of the opportunity to nominate experts to participate in the United Nations Environmental Programme’s (UNEP) Fifth Global Environment Outlook (GEO-5). The Fifth Global Environment Outlook is a UNEP report that seeks to provide a comprehensive and scientifically credible global environmental assessment to support decision-making processes. Individuals can be nominated directly to UNEP or through the U.S. Government. For U.S. Government nominations, the Department of State’s Office of Environmental Policy within the Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs will coordinate the recommendation of experts to serve on this body.
Nominees are expected to have a thorough understanding in one or more of the following areas: environmental science, environment and development policy, and environmental management or governance. UNEP will select nominees by matching their expertise to specific roles, paying due regard to disciplinary, gender and geographical balance. Candidates should agree in advance to fulfill the role for which they are nominated, should they be selected to do so by GEO. Nomination by the U.S. Government to GEO-5 does not imply a commitment by the U.S. Government to provide financial support for participation.
Individuals may seek to nominate others (or themselves) directly via the UNEP website at: http://www.unep.org/geo/nominations/. To access the nomination form, enter the following information: Username: geo5_2012; Password: nominee. To submit candidates through the U.S. Government, nominations must be submitted both to UNEP via website listed above and to the Department of State’s Office of Environmental Policy to: RosenmanRG@state.gov.
The following information should be provided for each nominee: (1) GEO-5 nomination form; (2) recent Curriculum Vitae; (3) identification of the relevant chapters; and (4) the role for which the individual is being nominated.
Nominations must be received no later than May 12, 2010. Please note that partial nomination packages will not be considered. Also note that the U.S. Government will evaluate all proposed nominations submitted. The submission of a proposed nomination to the Department of State does not guarantee that the U.S. Government will forward the nomination to UNEP.
