PRESS RELEASE

Horror Author Julie Ann Dawson Launches New RPG Book for the d20 System at Origins

COLUMBUS, OH - May 27 -- Bards and Sages (www.bardsandsages.com) announces that Julie Ann Dawson, author of the highly acclaimed horror collection September and Other Stories, will be at this year's Origins Gaming Convention being held at the Greater Columbus Convention Center June 30 to July 3, 2005. Dawson will be running games for her new RPG campaign setting Neiyar: Land of Heaven and the Abyss (ISBN 141162534X). The convention, sponsored by the Game Manufacturer's Association (GAMA) is now in its 31st year and is one of the longest running annual conventions in the industry.

Dawson's fiction and poetry has appeared in a variety of traditional and electronic media such as the award-winning Demonground, Black Bough, Lucidity, New Jersey Review of Literature, and the Philadelphia Inquirer. With Neiyar, she took her imagination and knowledge of mythology and sociology to create a believable fantasy world for game enthusiasts to explore.

"Roleplaying games are highly cerebral," says Dawson, who started playing RPGs while attending Rowan University in New Jersey. "They encourage you to think outside the box. To think on your feet. To push your imagination. As a writer, I have yet to find a better means of combating writer's block."

Roleplaying games first became popular with the game "Dungeons & Dragons" by Wizards of the Coast (www.wizards.com). Several years ago, Wizards of the Coast opened up the d20 license, allowing other game manufacturers to use their rules system to create new games. Neiyar uses the d20 system for its setting.

The campaign setting features five new player races, 10 new prestige classes, and a wide variety of new items, feats, and more for players to experience. Set on an isolated jungle island, the setting can be used as either a stand-alone game or as a supplement to many existing games. A complete free preview, as well as character sheets and maps, can be found at www.bardsandsages.com/neiyar.

Dawson will be running an original module for the campaign setting while at Origins, and will also be available to sign autographs of her books. This is a unique opportunity for players to actually play a game with the creator.
